OUR SERVICES
Over the past several years, more people have chosen to print their books in shorter runs than typically had been done before. “Short Run” simply means small quanitities.
These runs are often, but not always, done digitally. These runs are usually done quicker not only because the smaller quantity, but due to less stages throughout the plant. The path from when we receive the file to when we ship it is usually shorter. Another benefit of short runs is the ability to have your books on demand. Should you need more, we will already have your files on hand to just print a few extra copies off.
At Ball Media, our Short Run Book Production produces books for Authors, Publishers and Individuals in quantities of 25 or fewer and right up to 1000.
As a leader in the digital book printing industry, Ball Media is also please to offer eBooks on all the popular formats and largely accessed eBook formats across the world.
We generate eBooks compatible for accessing across various reading systems and platforms such as: Apple iPad, Sony, Amazon Kindle/Mobipocket Readers, Barnes and Noble’s Nook, and various smartphones such as iPhones, Android based devices and Blackberry’s etc.
We also provide support for DRM encryption & submission to the reseller sites on behalf of the publishers. Our eBook service has its own distinct qualities and advantages which is constantly updated to newer technologies. We provide multimedia support and integrate interactive rich media features with the eBooks. We also provide bundled services delivering various eBook outputs along with the XML/HTMLfor any future archival purpose. We can convert and create eBooks from any electronic input files like PDF, MS-Word, Frame Maker, Indesign, Quark, and Tex / LaTex, Hard copies or Scanned images.
These runs are traditionally run as offset jobs.
Our longer run book printing is primarily for jobs of 1000 books or more and is produced on the traditional high quality offset printing presses. Many of our customers have taken advantage of our short run book printing to test market their book’s sales potential only to re-print the book in larger quantities later on. This is a very popular strategy which minimizes the risk of ordering too many copies of your book.
If you already know there is going to be a higher demand for your book, we encourage authors to invest in offset printing. Offset printing offers a lower cost per book when ordering in larger quantities because the setup costs are more spread out. Thus, the more you print, the lower the cost per book.
Case or edition binding, the most common type of binding for hardcover books, involves sewing the individual signatures together, flattening the spine, applying endsheets and a strip of cloth to the spine. (The book “signatures” are printed sections of the book. The number of signatures varies based upon the number of pages in the book.) The hard covers are then attached. The spine of a case bound hard cover book is typically rounded and there are hinges (grooves) along the edges of the cover near the spine. Case bound books often also have dust covers or jackets.
At Ball Book factory we pride ourselves in the quality of our casebound titles.
